What to Do During a “Code Blue” Weather Emergency

A Code Blue Alert is issued by Hunterdon County when extremely cold temperatures or inclement weather pose a danger to anyone without shelter.

During a Code Blue Alert:

  • During daytime hours: Call the Hunterdon County Division of Social Services at 908-788-1300 for help arranging shelter.
  • After 4:30 p.m., weekends, or holidays: Call 211 or the Hunterdon Helpline at 908-782-4357 for overnight shelter placement, typically in a motel.
  • Daytime warming options: The county also coordinates warming centers and provides information on public locations such as libraries that are open to the public during cold weather.

Individuals are encouraged to call early, as shelter placements can fill quickly during extreme weather events.
