Stage 3 Fire Restrictions in Effect Due to Ongoing Drought Conditions

As a result of persistent drought conditions affecting our area, the Borough of Flemington and the entire State of New Jersey are now under Stage 3 Fire Restrictions. These enhanced fire safety measures are critical to protect our community from the increased risk of wildfires. We urge all residents, businesses, and visitors to understand and follow these guidelines to help prevent fires and ensure public safety.

What Stage 3 Fire Restrictions Mean:

  1. Open Burning Prohibited: All open burning is strictly prohibited. This includes campfires, bonfires, fire pits, and yard debris burning. The use of fireworks is also restricted under this stage.
  2. Outdoor Grilling Restrictions: Charcoal, wood-burning, or any open-flame grilling devices are not allowed outside. Only gas or electric grills are permitted for outdoor cooking, provided they are used safely and monitored closely.
  3. Suspension of Fire Permits: All existing fire permits for open fires are temporarily suspended. New permits will not be issued until conditions improve.
  4. Restrictions on Use of Heavy Equipment: Residents and contractors should avoid operating heavy machinery (such as chainsaws, mowers, and tractors) that could generate sparks, especially during the hottest parts of the day.
  5. Increased Vigilance in Outdoor Activities: Avoid activities that could inadvertently ignite a fire. If you are hiking, camping, or engaging in other outdoor activities, please be cautious and avoid dry vegetation.

These restrictions are in place for the safety of all residents, and compliance is essential. The Borough is working closely with emergency services to monitor fire risks and respond to incidents promptly. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we navigate these challenging conditions.

For updates on fire restrictions, please monitor the Borough of Flemingtonā€™s website and follow our social media channels. You can also sign up for emergency alerts to stay informed about any changes to fire restrictions or other critical safety updates.

If you have questions regarding the restrictions or need assistance, please contact the Flemington Borough Fire Marshal at 908-531-6290.

Together, we can keep Flemington safe. Thank you for your cooperation.
